John's Top 10 - Road Trip Stops

So here are my top 10 stops from our road trip across the country, excluding our stops to see family of course.

10.) Jolly Green Giant Statue - Blue Earth Minnesota
You can't travel across the country and not stop at a road side gimmick or two. We stopped at a few along the way but this one was the best in my opinion. Not only does it have a picture platform, for the perfect keepsake, it is beautifully constructed and is actually a nice statue.

9.) SPAM Museum - Austin, Minnesota
Still can't believe there is a museum for SPAM. It was fun, very interesting and educational. I never knew SPAM had the worldwide impact that it did and how it helped in the war effort during WWII.

8.) Watkins Glen State Park - Watkins Glen, NY
This was the only state park we visited on our road trip and it was worth it. We'd been up to visit my parents a number of times in NY, but have never stopped. It didn't disappoint. Stairs cut into the cliffs, yield a fantastic hike among the scenic waterfalls. I just wish we would have worn better foot attire as I would have like to have completed the hike to the top. Defiantly something we will revisit to catch the rest of the beauty.

7.)Central Park - New York City, NY
I don't know who planned the layout of New York City, but whomever is taking credit for leaving Central Park alone has surely earned it. It is just fantastic to be able to get lost in that park, you can forget that your in New York City.

6.) United States Holocaust Memorial Museum - Washington DC
We visited several museum when we were in Washington DC this one was by far the most interesting and humbling to visit. We could have spent hours more there than we did we just simply ran out of time before they closed. It is also the only place I didn't take a picture at, because I felt it would almost be disrespectful if I did.

5.) Mt. Rushmore - Keystone, SD
Impressive, even with the museum telling you how they built it, it really is hard to imagine how they did.

4.) National Mall - Washington DC
Have to group them all together because to me it is their collective beauty that make them all the more individually more impressive. It was fun to walk from the White House to Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial by the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, walking by the different war memorials and checking out the Capital Building surrounded by the Smithsonian Museums and other historic buildings.

3.)One World Observatory - New York City, NY
What a display of American strength this building is.  First of all it is gorgeous to look at from the outside. Second has fun interactive elevator rides both up and down. Lastly the views are fantastic, more then what I imagined they would be. 360 degree view of the city you can see every landmark you would want to see from the highest point in New York City. Amazing.

2.)Badlands National Park -  South Dakota
A fun drive through the Badlands National Park is a must anyone on vacation traveling on I-90 through South Dakota. We got to see tons of wildlife just from the side of the road, which was really surprising. Fantastic photo opportunities from beautiful landscapes or even fun selfies there are countless spots for that perfect photo.

1.) Grand Canyon National Park (North Rim) - Arizona
Badlands was tough to top, but the Grand Canyon's North Rim was by far the best. Not only was it fantastic, but we stayed until sunset which made it even better. Can't wait to go back to check it out from more angles.
